Indiana University and international partners light 100G transatlantic link over Aqua Comms’ AEConnect subsea cable
Posted on: 13 Dec, 2023
Increased data sharing between Africa, US and Europe will speed up scientific discovery
Following the recently granted award to Indiana University (IU) in collaboration with GÉANT and the UbuntuNet Alliance to deliver the ‘’Networks for European, American and African Research’’ (NEAAR), a new 100Gbps transatlantic subsea cable supplied by AquaComms has been switched on to enable extensive data sharing between continents.
Improved intercontinental networks will accelerate scientific breakthroughs in food security, environment preservation, and HIV treatment by allowing researchers to share data and results more quickly.
This new superpowered link is the first step of a multiple-phase-collaboration set to create a new exchange point in Africa and benefit from AfricaConnect2 pan-African network extensions.
